Nels Onstad, Superintendent

I was fortunate to become part of the Wabasha-Kellogg team in July.  I knew very early on in the superintendent selection process that the school and community would be a “good-fit” for me.  I was also fortunate to be able to purchase a home not far from school and immediately fell in love with this beautiful part of the state.

Most of my life has been spent at school in some form.  I grew up and graduated from Cyrus High School in the Midwest part of the state.   My math teaching and coaching career started in northern MN, (Greenbush-Middle River) and my wife and two sons moved closer to family when I became a principal at West Central Area (14+ yrs).  Since my principalship, I have worked licensing at the MN Department of Education, served as the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Superintendent (4+ yrs), and spent time in the private sector.

Community, staff, and students often want to know what changes will be made or wonder how things will be different with new leadership.  Solid organizations, such as the W-K school district are always striving for ways to serve students more effectively.  When I am asked about my beliefs and visions for WK, the answer is quite simple:  Our role is to provide an educational experience in order to help develop “Good Smart Kids”, (and by the way…most often you will hear me refer to our youth as children or students).  I am proud to have the opportunity to be part of that very endeavor as a W-K Falcon!

Have a great remainder of the summer and we are anxious for the return of our students!
